Big Brother Canada 7 - Kailyn Archer Exit Interview

March 22, 2019

You have mentioned that you knew this would happen ever since you fought to rally votes for Maki. If you knew that it would happen, what made you fight for him anyway?

Kailyn: Maki reminds me of my oldest son, and I just felt very protective. I also promised him. Dane got me to do his dirty work by getting Maki to go up on the block, promising him that he would be safe. He was strictly supposed to be a pawn. When things started to go sideways, I kind of felt responsible. I felt that I had to fight for him. I thought if things went sideways that I would be able to talk my way out of it. Unfortunately I’m here now.

Everyone wants to win the game, but did you have a bigger message or purpose behind wanting to play the game?

Kailyn: I wanted people to get a different view of what they expect of older people. Let’s go on, live our dream, and give those young kids a run for their money. I just wanted to get the whole experience. It was absolutely amazing.

When you told people your story, how much of it was done for game purposes and how much was so that they understood who you were as a person before you potentially walked out the door?

Kailyn: I knew I was going out the door, so I wanted them to definitely know who I was, why I was there, why I was playing so hard, but it was also gameplay. Maybe I’m not as big of a threat, I am older, I do have kids, so on and so forth. It was definitely because I felt that I was going out. There was a few people in that house who I really connected to and liked, and I wanted them to know who I really was.

If you could start over on night one, would you still lie about your age and hold back on telling your story?

Kailyn: Looking back, absolutely I would be honest about having kids and my age, cause I think it might have taken me further in the game cause I would have been able to connect to people on a different level. When you are hiding the most important part of who you are, it’s hard to connect cause you will have one-sided conversations.

Wednesday night while you were talking to Anthony out by the hot tub, he suggested that campaigning against Damien may help your chances. Any regrets about not doing more of that?

Kailyn: No. Out of everybody in the house, Damien was the hardest for me to be on the block against cause he is the person I had the most respect for. There was nothing bad I could say about him. All I could do is play up my points of why they should keep me in the house. It was just me saying this is why you need to keep me.

Why do you have the most respect for Damien out of anyone in the house?

Kailyn: They don’t see him. They do not see him and the strength that he carries, and just because he is very honest. I looked into his eyes and there was a connection there. I can’t explain it. It’s just knowing that he would not stab me in the back. There is not many people in the house I could say that about.

During your speech, you put the focus on Adam and Chelsea. That seemed strategic in that it was not the more obvious duo of Adam and Sam. What made you direct it at Chelsea?

Kailyn: Chelsea came after me and made a very strong statement, but also I wanted to get people thinking that “hey, there is other things going on here”. Everyone was focused on getting Sam out when I was thinking that Adam needed to go first. They didn’t realize that by getting Sam out, Chelsea just steps up into that spot. When Adam first entered the house, it was Chelsea he had his eye on.

Arisa told you about a guys alliance between Adam, Anthony, Dane and Mark. Does the fact that they are more focused on getting Sam out over Adam make more sense now?

Kailyn: Yes, absolutely. It completely makes sense.

Did it surprise you at all that those four are working together?

Kailyn: Not really, because those are some of the bigger egos in the house.

Of the four in the guys alliance, who do you think will be the first to turn on the alliance?

Kailyn: You know what, I think Dane. He is wishy washy. He kind of goes where the wind blows. I think if anything seems rocky, he will jump ship. I would really like to see Mark team up with Eddie and Damien, because I think they all have different strengths that they could bring to the game.

All of the houseguests called you Mama K. Where did the name come from?

Kailyn: This is funny. Outside of the house, it was my son’s ex-girlfriend that started calling me that, then my kids’ friends started calling me that. Inside the house, I don’t know who started it. Everyone is laying claim. Dane is saying it was him, Sam said she started it. I don’t know, but boy it stuck eh?

Who do you think will win Big Brother Canada 7?

Kailyn: I should have won Big Brother Canada 7. Enough said. I know who I want to win. Eddie or Damien.
